3_4 HEXAGONAL CONNECTION
This is a simple definition for hexagonal grid on surface. Likewise other connection definitions on this blog, the density of grid is adjustable with control points of surface.

hi, would it be possible to generate uneven hexagonal grid?
Sure, this hexagonal grid is generated from the rhino surface, which means you can differentiate it with control points of surface. Also if you want different density of grid, you can change the density of points with “Density Components(with attractors)” on this blog before going to the process of hexagonal grid.

Could you explain why you multiply the u and v by 4 & 4+7?
I understand it has something to do with the geometry of the hexagon, but I can’t figure out the mathematics -
Thank you!
It is about the module to set up hexagon from rectangular grid. As you know, unfortunately there’s no components for direct hexagonal subdivision which can be applied to rhino surface. Thus hexagonal grid on surface here is using uv rectangular grid from surface. Just try to sketch hexagon from rectangular grid, and think about number of points (sequence numbers) you need to set up hexagonal modules from rectangular module. If you want to make module which can be applied to a closed surface, you might need to consider carefully. It’s a little complicated, but once you figure out, you can use the same logic for a lot of similar cases of grasshopper paneling geometry. Good luck!

HG thanks a lot for your tutorial its very interesting logic but am new to grasshopper and i followed the steps but i found the lines didn’t make the hexagon, and here is the def.

thank you in advance
Hi HG,
thank you for your interesting tutorials!
While I was trying to build this grasshopper definition I had a problem with the branch component. Actually I use the latest version of gh (52). Is there any problem with this version and the branch component or should I replace it with another one?
Thank you very much
Nope. despite of some changes in GH versions, it always keep existing components functions as i know. It should work. Let me know if you really have problem even though you followed my tutorials exactly. I can help if you send me the file. Good luck with your study.

Hi, I’m having a lot of brain twisting trouble with this def. The lines and the bools are not working out and I’ve gone over it 3 times now with the same result. Can I send you the file? Trying to dot he hex study.
Cheers,
