STUDY : LANDSCAPING MESH

January 1, 2010

This is a kind of study with mesh landscape field. For this geometry, I used 3_3 BEZIER CONNECTION, 1_1. POINT CONCENTRATION, 1_3. POINT EXPANSION, 2_1 CONVEXED  & CONCAVED. The Bubble surface on mesh are made by using ‘Sweep 2 Rail’ on Grasshopper.

Hi HG! this is daewook from GSAPP! I’ve been visiting your website from Hong Kong!
    this website is amazing~
please keep up the great work.
    one quick question:
for the bubble surface (2 rail sweep). i know that it would work on one line easily,
but seems tricky to make it on the adjacent lines. (so the output would be bubble-no bubble-bubble-no bubble and so on..)
can you give me a hint of how you did it?
i know my question is not clear, but I;m guessing you would know what I mean..

    cheers!

Hi daewook. I know what you mean. It is about the point organization. You should make different groups of points like even or odd number, or more complicated series.. try to play with ‘cull’ component. I know it’s a little tricky. But once you know this, you can do any other things easily. good luck!

    Hi HG,

i am an architecture student and i have a project about masterplan…
our first step is to create a landscape mesh…but i have some problems…
my friends create this in 3ds max but i am a rhinoceros user and also new in grasshopper…

I saw your landscape mesh study and it s fantastic…

can you sent me the definition print screen… i want see the steps to create my own landscape with different geometries…but i need help please because my knowledge of grasshopper is not so good…

    thank for your time…

    Hi

Thanks for your interest, The definition of this study is pretty much complicated, that’s why I could not upload it. But it is a combination of a series of different definitions i uploaded on this blog with pdf tutorials. I can give you a hint below. So I think you can figure out if you understand this process.

    1. start with a square grid to make the base landscape points – point concentration and point expansion -> see the tutorial – convexed and concaved -> see the tutorial

    2. connect “controlled” points with bezier curves : mesh frame – bezier connection -> see the tutorial

    3. sweep 2 rails (one of components in GH) between two bezier curves – set up the individual plane for each target surface(3points) – use “Arc” as section profiles between two curves. – so, one module is composed of two surfaces actually.

    Good luck!

    HG

    Hello,
First of all I want to thank you for all your tutorials, they are very helpful.
i have a problem with an Arc for the sweep section :( could you give some indication to follow please. Thank you
