STUDY : HEXAGONAL OPENING
This is a study about hexagonal opening by using grasshopper. This geometry is pretty popular among students, now you can simply make and manipulate it without knowledge of scripting. Basically, I used the hexagonal grid definition(3_4 Hexagonal Connection) on this site, and found the center points of hexagons. And then by using the definition about density control (“Density Components”), I scaled down and extruded differentiately. The last thing is ‘loft’ between two groups of hexagon.
The definition is too long to make a tutorial this time. But I believe you guys can figure out the process referring to the previous tutorials I uploaded on this site. Please feel free to email me or leave your comments.

Looks nice, congrats.
Stupid question, how did you stitch together the GH def image? And I mean, any automatic program for that?
Thanx.
Nice job , i did something very similar for my thesis project. if you want , u can visit escripto.wordpress.com there are some post about honeycomb.

That’s really nice!
I’ve been working on a definition like that for a week now but can’t make it work. could you make a tutorial for that one soon so i don’t get so lost?
thank you a lot
I am planning to upload the tutorial about this definition in near future. But it’s very similar process with the previous tutorial about “Hexagonal Connection”. Please refer to that tutorial at this time.Thanks.

hi HG
i as well have been attempting to recreate this, but have been running into problems. would you be able to post a tutorial any time soon?
thanks so much!
benjamin
and could you possibly explain why you create 2 hexagon groups?
thanks!
If this is not the best site for learning, this is one of the best instructive sites I have seen in a while since Digital Box. The immense descriptions, analysis, explanations are fascinating on themselves. The work is well organized, presented and very instructive. Thanks a lot for your time, dedication and patience to build this incredible library and of course your willingness to show your knowledge and insight on the matter.
Thanks for your service and compromise.
Fantastic~!!!!
Hola, Im Danny from Colombia, we need a tutorial from this definition please!!!…
Hi,
Thanks for your tutorial.
I have completed your previous tutorial of “Hexagonal Connection”. I am egar to learn “HEXAGONAL OPENING”. I would like to know if you have tutorial avaliable now.
The connection between different component is not clear. Thus, I am not sure if the link is correct. I don’t know the Boolean (True/ False) for cull pattern if just see in the above pic.
Hope you can help, thanks a lot!

Yee, thanks for your interest in my works. I’d like to make tutorial for all my works but not ready yet for all of them. For “Hexagonal Opening”, it was a little bit complicated to explain in detail on tutorial. And I think if you understand other examples which have tutorials on my blog, you can figure out how to do this. Because of nothing new, it is a combination of various works i’ve shown here; hexagonal connection, attractor, all folding examples… I am sure you can figure out through other similar examples tutorials. Thus i encourage you to try with other examples. Also i’ll do more tutorials in near future here. Good luck with your study!
HG
That’s great!
Would you be able to post a tutorial any time soon?
We need a tutorial from this definition please!!!…
hik. You are very intelligent.I have been attempting to recreate this, but I can’t.
Thanks a lot for your tutorials.
Hope you upload the tutorial about this definition as soon as possible.
I urgently needed for my graduates project, please !!!…
Hi Mr. Kook. Amazing stuff. I’m trying to figure out the bit mask you are using in the cull pattern. Any chance you can enlighten us? It’s amazing!

Hi
We have followed your pdf but are struggling with the scale component within the ‘final surface generation’ section. it seems to be gathering the scaled hexagons relative to the attractor point in ‘differential control’ section. can you shed any light as to what may be going wrong please? thanks Jimmr
The hexagon module should be independent (closed) object to work with scale. Thus, you need to make different groups of closed hexagons. Good luck with your study!

Hi,
I completed the hexagonal connection tutorial and tried to recreate this study just going off the image but it didn’t quite work out. I was wondering if you could please have a look at my definition and tell me where I went wrong? Thanks for the great tutorial!
