PROJECT : FLOATING GARDEN

This project was recently exhibited at SeMA(Seoul Museum of Art) in Seoul. The existing space transformed into new space by constructing new boundaries with three spheres and characterizing them as artificial gardens. The outside space of frame represents ‘picturesque’ garden which is designed with ‘perspective’. The inside space of frame comes out as ‘experiential’ garden which gives unexpected spatial experience. This project had been developed with ‘Unfolding Grid’ study below.

STUDY : UNFOLDING GRID

Fabricating any geometry starts from setting module and assemblage methods. This study is about unfolding grid module to make face-to-face assemblage system. More details for assemblage can be added to each unfolded edge parametrically. This unfolding definition can be applied to any types of geometry using grid projection.

PROJECT : OPENING CHRONOMETRY

This project is to materialize study of ‘adaptive conformation’ with representing ‘Opening Chronometry’. It was installed with assemblage of units and minimized structures which were designed at precise points. Collaborated with prof. Hyundai Kim, and recently constructed with our Ewha Womans University students. It is located in front of ECC (designed by Dominique Perrault) in Ewha Womans University campus, Seoul, Korea.

STUDY : ADAPTIVE CONFORMATION

This study is to investigate ‘adaptive conformation’ and generate productive prototypical models for tectonic optimization which requires analytical mechanism through four inter-related elements: grid, density, scale, and structure. The unit was devised to simplify 3-dimensional surface structure with 3 points. And the radial grid had been developed to accommodate constant proportion of hexagonal grid wich changing geometry. This study was for actual following fabrication project.

STUDY : VORONOI RELAXATION

This study started from the idea about ‘relaxation’ of ’3d voronoi’ space. Thus, it was made out of GH 3d voronoi component, and relaxation definition using David Piker’s Kangaroo and Giulio Piacentino’s Weaverbird. 3D printer was used to produce the small mock-up of this potential piece.

Thanks everyone, always. This is the map of geometry developments by ‘Live Components’ so far. (please click here to see larger image “ Geometry Developments of Livecomponents ” ) Now it is introduced on magazine ‘Archiworld 1203‘ .

The base of ‘Live Components’ recently moved from New York to Seoul, which will help me to generate more interesting projects and researches in near future. New study material will be coming soon.

PROJECT : La Fabrique Sonore

This project is design of pavilion functioning as “loud speaker”, which is installed at ‘Pommery’ champagne factory cave in France. (exhibition 2011.09~2012.03) The acoustic folded surface and shape of cone amplify the sound of excitement from champagne bubble in the cave. All process and details, analysis have been perfectly developed by using GH. The project was collaborated with two great artists Ali Monemi and Robin Meier.

4_6 PANELIZED FOLDING

Folding and Paneling are always useful design items for surfacing in architecture. Through the simple logic with different combinations of basic geometry, a number of geometric options which have different visual and acoustic effects can be generated. It also comes with idea of modulations and system for actual construction. This definition and geometry was specially developed for the actual project ‘La Fabrique Sonore’. 1_4 GRADIENT PIXELIZATION

This has been simply developed to generate gradient pixelization with limited number of types. It is transferring brightness values to probabilities of random selection. This would be useful practically to create a tiling from gradient image with limited or controlled number of tiles like façade of soccer city worldcup stadium. (GH version : Build 0.8.0009)

7_2 MINIMAL SURFACE PANELING

The Minimal Surface Module can be applied to Paneling of any Rhino Surface with flexible geometry. It is using ‘date tree’ for ’Shift’ to get a mirror effect and using Minimal Surface module like a X-ref block. Please see the tutorial link below. (GH version : Build 0.8.0004)
